My friend Joel wins online video contests for a living. Check it out – he’s insanely talented, and all his stuff’s online. We recently collaborated on the above entry in an EPA-sponsored contest about how you can get involved in the process of creating federal regulations. I’ll let you know if we win.
Also – from Joel’s blog entry about our video:
Now, you might not believe it, but this contest, hosted by the EPA, has been a major source of controversy in the world of us Video Contest folks. For some reason, a lot of the ol’ tea party folks around the country have decided that it constitutes a major flashpoint and ideal subject for arguing over. I guess the issue of whether the government is right in using $2500 of its advertising budget to sponsor a contest about “the role of citizens in rule-making,” is a little controversial?
What’s crazy about it is a few parts:
1) It’s basically a 4th grade assignment, “what is a citizens role in a democracy,” and the idea of people getting so mad about it is really silly.
2) Rules made by the EPA are pretty good things. I’m super glad that there are rules prohibiting dumping of toxic wastes into my drinking water, limiting the pollutants going into the air, enforcing standards of quality, etc. The role of a government is to protect it’s people, and that means more than just an army – that means standing up for us as consumers and air-breathers, too!

Awkward BEP video
March 12, 2010
Ah, the Black Eyed Peas’ group dynamic in a nutshell. (Pea hull?) will.iam and Fergie preside in the back while apl.de.ap and Taboo b-boy around up front like two dancing bears. They try to stop around 1:45, but, at around 2:00, will makes them keep going. “No more fluid fluid?” They gamely resume, jobs no doubt on the line. Delightful!
For the record, I like almost all BEP singles, most songs from “Monkey Business,” and will’s solo album.

Hi ho! DOOM here. Just a heads-up: my boy Napkins has some great shows in March, including a couple of 30-minute sets at the Westside Comedy Theater. That’s a ton of Nap-time, and you can be sure he’ll be performing lots of new raps that you would be remiss to miss. Get all the details on these and other shows at http://mrnapkins.com/schedule, and stay tuned for more info on his forthcoming album (tentatively due out in late spring or early summer). Peace!

Well HOWDY, chums!!! 2010 is going to be quite a year for everyone’s favorite pineapple-headed comedy rapper —- your fave and mine, MC Mr. Napkins!!!! His forthcoming album is all nice and recorded with a red shiny bow on top – now it just needs to be edited, mixed, mastered, artworked, and distributed. That’s going to take a few months, but you gotsta gotsta gotsta be patient, cause when it DOES drop (finally!!!!!), it’s going to have all the good stuff you’re a-hungerin’ for, from studio stunners to live loveliness to radical remixes. But it CERTAINLY won’t have any HIDDEN tracks! (Which is exactly what I’d say if I were trying to throw you OFF the track….sneaky sneaky!)
It’s gonna be quite a year! As Napkins said to me at our falconry lesson last week, “Gettin’ plenty done, yo, in twenty-one-oh!”

Company B
November 20, 2009
Yesterday, I reconvened a group of singers who have not performed together since 2001: five former members of Company B, Brandeis University’s oldest a cappella group (of which I was a member for four years, president for two). These smooth crooners were laying down some background vocals for the album I’m currently recording. From left: Olinde Mandell, Mark Lipman, Brendan Gannon, Staci Hopkin, and Michelle Zeitler. Rap hands!
